ABOUT UNORTHODOX (2020)

Unorthodox is a German-American web television drama miniseries that debuted on the Netflix streaming platform on March 26, 2020.

The series was inspired by and loosely based on Deborah Feldman's autobiography "Unorthodox: The Scandalous Rejection of My Hasidic Roots", 2012.1 2 It was co-produced by Real Film Berlin and Studio Airlift, distributed by Netflix, produced by Alexa Karolinski, written by Anna Winger, Alexa Karolinski and Daniel Hendler, directed by Maria Schrader and filmed in Berlin. Its main actors are Shira Haas, 3 4 Amit Rahav and Jeff Wilbusch.

The series tells the story of a young woman who broke free from the ultra-Orthodox Jewish religious community of the Satmar community in New York and started a new life in Berlin.

It is the first Netflix series to be spoken primarily in Yiddish. It consists of four episodes of approximately 55 minutes each.

UNORTHODOX (2020) synopsis

Esther "Esty" Schwartz, a 19-year-old woman, is on the run from her arranged marriage and from the ultra-Orthodox Hasidic Satmar Jewish community in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York, to which she belongs in search of her own sense of identity. She moves to Berlin, where her mother lives, absent from her childhood, and tries to navigate a secular life. She meets a group of music students from different countries, she befriends them and decides to enter the music conservatory. Her husband Yakov Shapiro, who discovers that Esty is pregnant, travels to Berlin with Moshe, her cousin, on the orders of her rabbi, to try to find her and return her to the community.

UNORTHODOX (2020) IS WORTH TO WATCH

There isn't a single person on the planet who hasn't heard of this film. The cast also does an excellent job in their parts. Before you read this review and before I give you any spoilers about the plot, I strongly advise you to watch the film. It's nearly impossible not to like Unorthodox (2020). The plot is well-crafted, the pacing is excellent, and all of the performers provide outstanding performances. Because of how excellent it was, it film stands out in my mind. Maybe it's because I wasn't expecting it. I strongly advise everyone to watch this film; you will not be disappointed.
