True Detective Review
True Detective is a crime drama television series produced and written by Nic Pizzolatto. The series aired on the cable network HBO in the United States and premiered on January 12, 2014. Each season of the series features a separate story, new cast, and personality building for each. different characters.
The first season of the series consists of 8 episodes, including the famous cast of Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, Michelle Monagan, Michael Potts and Tory Kittles. The second season premiered on June 21, 2015 and stars Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams, Taylor Kitsch, Kelly Reilly and Vince Vaughn.
The story of the first season begins in 1995 when detectives Martin Hart (Woody Harrelson) and Rustin "Rust" Cohle (Matthew McConaughey) of the Louisiana State Police Criminal Investigations Division are sent to investigate the murder. of a woman after the local police sheriff of the Vermilion Parish requested the help of the state police due to the special circumstances of the crime. Arriving at the crime scene (on the outskirts of the small town of Erath), the detectives find a gruesome murder linked to rituals and elements of witchcraft and could be the work of a serial killer. The woman is naked, tied hand and foot, with deer antlers on her head, in the middle of a sugar cane plantation.15 In the face of social alarm, the police allocate significant resources to the investigation and the pair of detectives formed by Hart and Cohle lead the special investigation group, concentrating their efforts in the world of street prostitution on the highways when discovering that the victim was a prostitute. But digging into the past they soon discover a connection to the disappearance of a girl a few years earlier, confirming it to be the work of a serial killer. The dark story mixes the investigation of the disturbed murderer's horrific and morbid crimes with the drama of the detectives' personal lives, and exploits the differences between them; Hart is a family man, Christian, conservative and realistic (although he is also an unfaithful husband who cannot control his sexual impulses), very well adapted to the idiosyncrasies of the inhabitants of this rural region of Louisiana. On the other hand, Cohle, recently arrived from the state of Texas (where he also worked as a police officer) is a lonely, strange man, with a dark and pessimistic personality, dragging along a depression due to the death of his daughter, he believes that human existence is a waste and with his atheism and his nihilistic philosophy offends the religious mentality of the inhabitants of the area. Although both detectives admire and respect each other professionally, they have a rather distant and complex personal relationship; although over the years it becomes closer and contradictory.
