Season 1 introduces the six main characters of the series: Monica, Phoebe, Rachel, Ross, Chandler and Joey. Very quickly, she landed her first job and became a waitress at Central Perk, the favorite café of the six friends.
Ross has just divorced Carol, to whom he had been married for eight years, because she realized that she was a lesbian. Already upset by this divorce, he learns that Carol is pregnant with him. He will have to face his role as a future father and especially learn to deal with Carol's partner, Susan. Perhaps in response to this dismay, Ross takes a little monkey, Marcel, as his pet.
The other friends have various romantic adventures. It is in this season that we meet Janice, Chandler's annoying girlfriend, with whom he will break up many times throughout the series.
The season ends with two major events: the birth of Ross's son, and Chandler's accidental disclosure to Rachel of Ross's feelings for her.
