A shinigami, like a god of death, can kill anyone - as long as they see their victim's face and write their victim's name in a notebook called a Death Note. One day, Ryuk, fed up with the shinigami lifestyle and wanting to see how humans would use the Death Note, dropped a notebook into the human world.
High school student and prodigy Light Yagami stumbles upon the Death Note and — as he discovers the state of the world — checks the death notebook by writing the criminal's name in it. When the criminal died shortly after his experiment with the Death Note, Light was amazed and quickly realized how devastating the power that had fallen into his hands could be.
With this divine ability, Light decides to destroy all criminals to build a new world where crime does not exist and people worship him as a god. However, the police quickly discover that a serial killer is targeting criminals and thus, attempt to arrest the perpetrator. To do this, Japanese investigators count on the help of the world's best detective: a young and eccentric man known only as L.
Lawliet L - Main - Yamaguchi Kappei

Death Note is undoubtedly one of the best anime series of all time, as it presents a deeply engaging and unique story that few can match. I can honestly say it's one of the best, if not the best anime series I've seen.
Plot: A unique story. A notebook falls from the sky, and man writes a name in it that has the potential to kill the individual pictured in his mind (I have omitted the details you are not interested in). This introduces viewers to a highly controversial topic based on ethics and justice.
