ABOUT BACHELOR'S VEGETABLE STORE

"Bachelor's Vegetable Store" is based on the true story of Lee Young-Suk, who started selling vegetables at a small shop in 1998 and now owns 33 vegetable stores nationwide.

In his youth, Tae-Yang (later played by Ji Chang-Wook) lived with his grandmother and younger sister Tae-In (later played by Lee Se-Young). His mother has passed away and his father abandoned him. Tae-Yang's best friend is Jin-Sim (later played by Wang Ji-Hye). Jin-Sim is an orphan who lives in an orphanage attached to a church. Their secret play area is an abandoned car.

Tae-Yang often goes to traditional markets with Tae-In's sister and picks up discarded vegetables to bring home. One day, some of his classmates learn about the situation of Tae-Yang and Jin-Sim. As students start teasing about his pitiful plight, Jin-Shim kisses Tae-Yang. Jin-Shim tells him that she kissed him because the kids would think more about the kiss than about his poor background. Tae-Young is filled with happiness upon hearing the news and decides to buy a gift for Jin-Shim. He decided on a pager. To make money to buy pager, Tae-Young starts selling vegetables on the street. His younger sister Tae-In helps him. But, an older kid in the neighborhood raped her money. Another time, Taeyang sells vegetables at a traditional market and it is a child who asks for money from Taeyang. People started to gather around and started swearing at the bully. Taeyang then told the people around him that the boy was not asking for his money. The bully, grateful for Taeyang's action, takes him to the back door of the restaurant and introduces the woman there to Taeyang. Tae-Young now has her first regular client.

Meanwhile, Jin-Sim peeps at the mother and daughter at the church. Mother is Kang-Sun and daughter is Ga-On. Jin-Sim wishes she had a mother like Kang-Sun. Kang-Sun runs a children's clothing store.

One day, Jin-Sim stood outside a children's clothing store and looked out the window. Ga-On, the shop owner, saw Jin-Sim looking through the window and invited her inside. Jin-Sim burns his hands from the hot tea in the store and the shop owner and his daughter take her to the hospital. When the nurse asked who Jin-Sim's mother was, Kang-Sun replied that she was his mother. Jin-Sim was deeply touched by that. After that day, Jin-Sim and Ga-On became best friends. They even started sharing a diary. Tae-Yang starts to get annoyed with Jin-Sim's newest best friend, especially when she takes the Ga-On to their special place ... the car is abandoned.

Kang-Sun reads an article about company president Mok In-Beom about to divorce. That evening, Kang-Sun called Mok In-Beom and they arranged to meet when Ga-On was ready. In the past, Kang-Sun and Mok In-Beom fell in love, but because of Kang-Sun's poor background, Mok In-Beom's parents objected to their relationship. However, Mok In-Beom loves Kang-Sun and is willing to give up everything for her. Instead, Kang-Sun asks In-Beom to become strong enough that they can form a family. She left with their child Ga-On.

One day, Tae-Yang, younger sister Tae-In, Jin-Shim and Ga-On are together on the street. Tae-Yang, younger sister Tae-In, and Jin-Sim sell vegetables together, while Ga-On plays the violin. Kang-Sun happens to pass by and becomes angry when he sees his daughter playing the violin on the street. Ga-On ran away. That evening, Jin-Sim went to Kang-Sun's clothing store to return the violin to Ga-On. There, Kang-Sun blames Jin-Sim for Ga-On's behavior and asks Jin-Sim not to see Ga-On anymore. Jin-Sim was devastated by those words. She goes to the abandoned car alone and cries.

Taeyang noticed something was wrong with his grandmother. He went to his grandmother's doctor to find out what was wrong with her. Taeyang then learns that his grandmother has only a short time to live. Tae-Yang is devastated and also goes to the abandoned car. Now, Tae-Yang and Jin-Sim find each other at the abandoned car in tears.

After attending the church, Jin-Sim told Ga-On what her mother asked for. Jin-Sim says she doesn't want to be friends anymore and leaves. Ga-On waits for Jin-Sim in the abandoned car, but only Tae-Yang goes there. Ga-On gives their general diary to Taeyang and asks him to give it to Jin-Shim and she will wait for Jin-Shim at the abandoned car tomorrow. The next day at school, Taeyang reads the diary. He came across the latest entry written by Ga-On. Ga-On writes that she and her mother will come live with her father, but she will take Jin-Sim along and they will love each other as a family. Tae-Yang, afraid he would lose Jin-Sim, tore off the item before giving it to Jin-Sim. Tae-Yang also did not mention that Ga-On would wait for her in the abandoned car after school.

Meanwhile, Ga-On waits for Jin-Sim in the abandoned car. Ga-On fell asleep and by the time she woke up it was already dark outside. At this moment, Ga-On heard outside sounds. Suddenly, the car door opened and their two children were standing outside. Ga-On got scared and ran from them up a ladder. As the two children approached her, Ga-On fell to the ground.

Kang-Sun is deeply worried that Ga-On hasn't returned home yet. Kang-Sun comes and asks Jin-Sim if she knows where her daughter can be. Jin-Sim thinks that Ga-On might be in the abandoned car. On the way there, they meet Taeyang by chance. Taeyang said that Ga-On could be there waiting for Jin-Sim. They all rushed to the abandoned vehicle, but the Ga-On was not there. They found Ga-On's favorite doll near the car.
