Atypical is a Netflix series that revolves around the life of Sam, a not exactly popular boy. For Sam, life is more complicated than we can imagine. Despite having a best friend, whom he knows from work, he sometimes feels rejected, especially by girls.
He decides to find a girlfriend, but it is difficult for him because he is seen as "strange", since he has certain manias and customs. Sam is fond of penguins and Antarctica, so he talks to every girl he meets about this, and it makes them back off. He begins by falling in love with her therapist, however he does not get anything from her because she already has a partner, and the only thing he achieves by confessing her love for her is a rejection from her. Throughout the series, the protagonist suffers a lot, seeing himself in situations such as spending a night at the police station, disrespecting a policeman, who did not know Sam's situation, or suffering an attack in the middle of a bus for having been rejected by your therapist. However, he progressively manages to control his emotions and relate to others. He gets a job, which he keeps during the series.
On the other hand, Sam's sister meets a boy, Evan, whom she falls in love with and with whom she has a long relationship throughout the series. Over the course of the series, Sam's family goes through difficult times, as his mother, Elsa, leaves with a man she meets one night at a bar. This causes Doug, her husband, to throw her out of the house, so the family distances itself and the marriage relationship breaks down, and this as a consequence, affects Sam quite a bit.
